GUYANA has secured the hosting rights for a major international aviation safety forum after the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Wednesday.
The agreement formalises arrangements for Guyana to host the ICAO/EASA Third Global Regional Safety Oversight Organisation (RSOO) and Regional Accident and Incident Investigation Organisation (RAIO) Forum, scheduled for September 29–30, 2026.
The signing marks a significant milestone for Guyana’s aviation sector, positioning the country as an emerging player in shaping international aviation safety standards and strengthening its role within the global aviation community.
According to the release, the forum will bring together high-level government officials responsible for transport, infrastructure, finance, the economy and tourism, alongside aviation industry leaders, international organisations and technical experts from around the world.
Organised in collaboration with ICAO, the event is expected to serve as a key platform for advancing regional safety oversight mechanisms and enhancing frameworks for the investigation of aviation accidents and incidents.
The MoU was signed by Director General of the GCAA, Egbert Field, and ICAO Secretary General, Juan Carlos Salazar.
The signing ceremony took place on the sidelines of the Global Aviation Safety Symposium, currently being held in Marrakech, underscoring international commitment to advancing aviation safety standards worldwide.
