A 26-year-old mother of Fyrish, Corentyne was on Monday remanded to prison after being charged with the capital offence of murder in connection with the death of her seven-year-old daughter.

Sarah Elizabeth Shivpersaud appeared at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was formally read. She was not required to enter a plea.

The court ordered that she be remanded to prison and adjourned the matter to May 12.

Shivpersaud is accused of suffocating her daughter, Isabella Dabadial, at their Fyrish home two Sundays ago.

Police have said that the child was allegedly manually strangled at her home on Sunday, April 5, 2026. Investigators further reported that the woman also attempted to harm her infant son but was unsuccessful.

According to police, Shivpersaud told investigators that she had been experiencing significant emotional distress after her husband left the home several days earlier and refused to return. She also claimed that she woke up on the morning of the incident to find there was no food in the house.

Investigators said that following the alleged act, the woman injured herself by slitting veins behind both of her ankles in what is believed to have been a suicide attempt.

She and the two children were taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where Isabella was pronounced dead on arrival. Shivpersaud received medical treatment and, upon discharge, was taken into police custody.

Hours before the incident, the woman reportedly posted a photograph of herself and her two children on Facebook with the caption: “Me and my babies last pic! I’m sorry! May God forgive me!”
