FUEL shipments are expected as early as tonight, as the government intensifies efforts to address ongoing shortages affecting consumers across the country.

This assurance came on Monday during a meeting at State House between President Dr. Irfaan Ali and fuel importers, where the Head of State was briefed on the current supply challenges and steps being taken to stabilise the situation.

“The President was informed that efforts are underway to curb current shortages, with shipments expected as early as tonight,” the Office of the President said in a statement.

Importers cited shipping delays as a key factor behind the disruption, which has triggered increased demand and a rush on existing fuel supplies.

“The President was briefed on challenges faced by importers, including shipping delays that have led to a rush for fuel,” the statement added.

State-owned Guyoil indicated that while shipments are expected shortly, the company is also working to secure additional supplies to meet demand and prevent further disruptions.

President Ali assured that the Government of Guyana is closely monitoring the situation, with a focus on restoring normal supply in the shortest possible time.

Prime Minister, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips, and Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Energy Agency, Dr. Mahender Sharma, were also present at the meeting.

The government has urged the public to remain calm as efforts continue to resolve the temporary shortage.
