THE Georgetown Toastmasters Club (GTC) earlier this week commemorated its 67th anniversary, a legacy that began on March 18, 1959.

Founded in Georgetown, this Toastmasters Club holds the distinguished honour of being the Mother Club of the Caribbean, paving the way for the growth of Toastmasters across the region.

The club recently said that for more than six decades, it has remained committed to shaping confident communicators and impactful leaders.

The GTC was founded by Derek Adamson, and the first official public meeting was held in Georgetown on March 18, 67 years ago.

The Toastmasters Club has been described as a club that is focused mainly on public speaking and developing leadership and communication skills. More than this, the club is comparable to a family or community where a common goal is shared: improving public speaking.

From humble beginnings to a thriving community of passionate speakers, evaluators, and leaders, the club’s journey has been defined by growth, resilience, and excellence. Each meeting, speech, and evaluation has contributed to a culture where voices are empowered and potential is realised.

“As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, we honour the vision of our founders, the dedication of past and present members, and the bright future ahead,” the Toastmasters Club said in a statement adding, “Here’s to continuing the legacy of inspiration, transformation, and leadership for generations to come.”

Club President Tamica Noel in her anniversary message, stated that as Toastmasters celebrate 67 years of growth, she is reminded that the greatest power we possess is the power of our voices.

“Sixty-Seven years ago, a foundation was laid by individuals who believed that the power of the spoken word could transform lives. Today, we aren’t just celebrating a date on calendar, we are celebrating nearly seven decades of broken barriers, conquered fears and the relentless pursuit of self-improvement. Every word we speak and every leader we become shapes a brighter future for our community,” she said.

The Toastmaster President encouraged others to continue to find their purpose and inspire others.

In commemoration of the club’s anniversary, the GTC celebrated with a church service on Sunday last. This celebration will continue with a brunch, media engagements and membership outreaches, and other activities by the club.

The Georgetown Toastmasters Club is one that empowers individuals to become more effective communicators, and leaders, and is committed to providing a supportive and positive learning experience, where members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, which result in greater self-confidence and personal growth.
