A 26-year-old fisherman from Barima River, North West District, has been charged with Attempt to Commit Murder following an alleged attack on a local farmer last month.
The accused, George Joseph, allegedly committed the offence against 54-year-old Sandra Dawson at her residence on Saturday, December 7, 2025. Joseph was arrested the following day, Sunday, December 8, 2025, and formally charged with the offence.
On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, Joseph appeared before Senior Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Mabaruma Magistrate’s Court. The charge was read to him, and in accordance with the procedures for indictable offences in Guyana, he was not required to enter a plea at this stage. Joseph was remanded to prison pending the next court date.
The matter has been adjourned to February 7, 2027, for further proceedings. Attempted murder is a serious offence under Guyana’s criminal law, carrying substantial custodial penalties if the accused is found guilty following trial.
The police investigation is ongoing, and additional evidence may be presented when the case resumes before the court.
