ON Sunday Kwakwani Secondary, President’s College and the Government Technical Institute were the divisional winners of the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) 14th Titan Bowl knock-out Schools’ Basketball Competition at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
After a flawless run up to the finals, Government Technical Institute had to dig in deep to seal the finals with a two-point win over Saint Stanislaus College in the under 18 category 84-82.
GTI had an awesome outing from Jahiem Barnwell who scored 27 points with an outstanding 22 rebounds leading his side in offence and defence to collect the MVP award for his age group.
Kyrell Butters was equally as good with 19 points and 5 rebounds with 10 points each for Alwyn Adams and Sean Duncan.
Saints’ Daniel Chisholm also showed his shooting prowess for his 27 points with great support from Kadeem Beckles (16) Demitri Crandon (13).
The under 14 group saw President’s College emerging as the top school with a five-point win over Marian Academy 32-27.
President’s College Terron Mohabir led with flair for his side with 17 points coupled with 12 rebounds to walkway with MVP honours.
Marian Academy for their part had 12 points and 10 rebounds from Lucas Pinol with Nehemiah Francois chipping in with 8 buckets.
The girls’ division saw the continued dominance of champions Kwakwani Secondary who battered President’s College 31- 7 points.
Brianna Benjamin who has led her team offence, again stepped up in the finals with 14 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to put them on course for victory.
She didn’t do it alone as Lanasha Mohamed also contributed 15 points in the win.
On the losing side Kaycia Mc Laggen was President’s College’s best scorer with 4 Points and 4 Rebounds.
The tournament was sponsored by Francis-Lau Boyce, Banks DIH, ENET, and Newrest.
