FRUTA Conquerors on Sunday bagged a much-needed victory when they clashed with Camptown FC in the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Super 16 Cup played at the National Training Centre at Providence.
Fruta’s Shondell Antoine gave the Tucville side restored equilibrium in the game just before the break in response to Camptown’s Joseph Harry’s opener in the 20th minute.
Oziel Small’s 84th minute strike broke the deadlock and handed Conquerors the victory 2-1.
The day’s other match-up saw West Coast side Zeelugt Defenders defeating Beacon FC.
Quano Fraser got the ball rolling in the 6th minute of play before Johnny Basanta scored back-to-back goals in the 18th and 20th minutes to make it 3-1.
Beacon FC’s Ronaldo Abrams 31st minute goal pulled back the advantage and put Beacon in with a chance.
However, that would prove their only intervention in the match as Hector Azacon sealed Zeelugt’s win with a late goal, the scoreline reading 4-1 at the final whistle.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Buxton Stars and Mahaica Determinators won in similar fashion.
Buxton stars defeated Strikers FC 3-1 with Buxton’s Chidieber Chidume leading with a pair of goals while Mahaica Determinators Football Club also got the better of Uitvlugt Warriors FC 3-1 with Julius Hamilton.
Brian James accounted for the other goal.
