Guyana, Finland commit to strengthen diplomatic ties, economic co-operation

MINISTER of Foreign Affairs, Hugh Todd, and Non-Resident Ambassador of Finland to Guyana, Pertti Ikonen, recently discussed the strengthening of diplomatic ties and advancing bilateral economic co-operation between to two nation states.
According to information from the ministry, Minister Todd also updated Ambassador Ikonen on the case between Guyana and Venezuela currently before the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
Ambassador Ikonen noted that the rules-based international order must be respected and upheld and emphasised the need for all states to be respectful of international law, including judgements handed down by the ICJ.
Minister Todd reaffirmed Guyana’s commitment to the principles of the United Nations Charter and Guyana’s commitment to the rules-based international order.
Guyana and Finland established diplomatic relations on April 2, 1979, and have ever since enjoyed cordial relations with collaborations at the multilateral level through Caricom and the United Nations.
