MINISTER within the Prime Minister’s Office and People’s Progressive Party/Civic’s (PPP/C) party agent, Kwame McCoy, has issued a stern rebuke of what he has described as a “deliberate campaign of misinformation and mischief” by Hadiyyah Mohamed of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party during the ongoing electoral recount process at the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) headquarters in Kingston.

McCoy in a Facebook post condemned recent statements and social media posts circulated by WIN candidates alleging ballot box tampering.

He described the claims as “irresponsible,” warning that such tactics are designed to undermine confidence in what has been a transparent, peaceful, and credible electoral process.

“Throughout today’s recount process, Mohamed and her cohorts peddled distortions and outright falsehoods,” McCoy said.

“Their latest fabrication that the baseless claim that ballot boxes were tampered with is being irresponsibly circulated on social media, accompanied by a video that deliberately breaches the procedures outlined for by the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) for the conduct of the recount.”

A video shared online by the WIN agent purportedly showing irregularities during the recount has also come under scrutiny for violating procedures set out by GECOM.

McCoy noted that the footage appears to have been deliberately recorded and disseminated in breach of established recount protocols.

“Guyana’s democracy draws strength from the integrity of this process, and the recount reinforces its credibility,” McCoy asserted.

McCoy further criticised Mohamed’s motives, pointing to the backgrounds of WIN’s Leader, Azzurdin Mohamed who has been sanctioned by the United States for offences including gold smuggling and tax evasion.

“When individuals already discredited and sanctioned by the United States for gold smuggling, tax evasion, and other serious crimes attempt to smear it, their intent becomes transparent.”

As the recount continues, McCoy urged political maturity and respect for due process. He urged all stakeholders to allow GECOM to complete its work without undue interference or reckless rhetoric, reaffirming PPP/C’s commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law.
