PSC praises peaceful elections, commends GECOM’s transparency

The Private Sector Commission (PSC) today hailed the 2025 elections as one of the smoothest in the country’s history, crediting the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) and citizens alike for a process marked by efficiency and calm.

At a post-election press conference held on Thursday, PSC Chairman Captain Gerald Gouveia Jr., Vice Chairman Kathy Smith, and Executive Committee member Kit Nascimento said their observer teams were satisfied with the conduct of the polls, which they described as free, fair, and transparent.

The PSC also commended GECOM for its professionalism in facilitating the recount process currently underway.

The body noted that while not all parties may welcome the exercise, recounts remain an integral part of democratic systems and help reinforce public confidence in the outcome.

They further highlighted the readiness of both GECOM officials and the police to manage the recount efficiently and securely.

The Commission added that improvements such as better accessibility for persons with disabilities, clearer signage and improved working conditions for staff could strengthen future elections, but stressed that these issues did not affect the integrity of the process.

The PSC further praised the patience of voters, the diligence of party agents, and the responsibility shown by political leaders, adding Guyana had once again demonstrated a commitment to democracy and the rule of law.
