EAST Bank Demerara’s Owan Wills, West Demerara Jonathan Bahadur and Aria Johnson from Berbice emerged as the category winners in the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) Novice and Handicap table tennis tournament played at the National Gymnasium over the weekend.
In the Handicap Open singles finals, Owan Wills playing with a plus one handicap defeated Krystian Sahadeo who had a minus 6 handicap 11-8, 11- 7,4-11, 11-13 and 11-7 (3-2).
In the semi-finals, Wills got the better of Xenophon Goliah who had a minus
4 handicap 11-3, 11-7, 11-7, (3-0).
While the other finalist, Sahadeo, defeated Malachi Moore 10-12, 11-2, 11-6, 11-8 (3-1) to play for the overall title.
The quarter- finals saw Moore with a minus 6 handicap beating Jaden Trotman in straight sets 3-0.
Sahadeo also playing with a minus 6 handicap defeated Samara Sukhai three sets to 1.
Goliah with a plus 4 handicap defeated Angel Robinson with a plus 2 handicap 3 sets to 2 and Wills stopped Christopher Nelson 3-0.
The Novice open finals featured Jonathan Bahadur and Lester Thomas Bahadur won the encounter in straight sets 11-9 and 12-10. Joint third places went to Alyssa Troyer who lost to Thomas (1-2) and Jhonny Carpio who lost to Bahadur (0-2)
The U-13 Novice tournament was played in a round robin play- off among five (5) players — Winner Aria Johnson (Berbice) second place Ethan Marks (Marian Academy), third place Fabianna John (Agricola), fourth Place Kadem Wickham (Marian Academy) and Mia Barrow (Diamond) finished at the bottom of the table.
