THE US$106.4 million Ogle-to-Eccles road project, a highly anticipated infrastructural development, is progressing swiftly, with local residents and businesses expressing appreciation for the government’s efforts. The massive undertaking, designed to alleviate traffic congestion and improve access across key areas, is being lauded for its positive impact on the community.

An employee of Rucamel Shopping Plaza, who spoke with the Guyana Chronicle under anonymity, shared her surprise at the rapid pace of construction. Initially concerned about the inconvenience caused by dust and access restrictions, she is now pleased with the wider, safer road. “At first, we had to deal with dust and couldn’t drive on the road for a few days, but we shouldn’t complain because the road looks good, and we are the ones who will benefit,” she said.
The employee also expressed gratitude to Minister of Public Works, Bishop Juan Edghill, for his hands-on approach. “Minister Edghill visited and spoke with the people in the village. He knew we were at a disadvantage with the dust and machinery, but he made sure to check in with us. Sometimes that’s all you need,” she added.
Residents of Ogle, like Mr. Persaud, an elderly man who has lived in the village for years, are also pleased with the progress. Mr. Persaud commended the development, noting how much it contrasts with the challenges he faced in his younger days. “We don’t have to agree with everything the government is doing, but you have to agree this is the best we have seen in our country. There are opportunities for our children and grandchildren through these developments, and I welcome that,” he said.
Mr. Persaud also highlighted how expansion of the road will reduce traffic congestion and provide easier access to schools and workplaces, especially for the younger generation.
Earlier this month, Minister Edghill visited the Ogle community and expressed satisfaction with the pace of the project. He reported that the road was 81.5% complete and remained optimistic that it would be finished on schedule.
As the Ogle-to-Eccles road nears completion, the project is being celebrated not only for improving infrastructure, but for its potential to enhance the quality of life for local residents
