A massive crowd turned out at the Providence Stadium last night to watch the Amazon Warriors return to winning ways

AN entertaining 63 from 33 balls with four fours and five sixes from Man-of the-Match Shimron Hetmyer and a career-best 3-9 from fast bowler Shamar Joseph, fired the Guyana Amazon Warriors to an emphatic 30-run victory against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on Friday night at the Providence
Stadium in their first home match in the 12th CPL T20 tournament.

Hetmyer got support from Romario Shepherd whose cameo unbeaten 34 lasted 22 balls and included a four and three sixes as the Warriors struggled to 137-8.
Guyanese left-arm spinner Ashmead Nedd had 4-25 despite his second over going for 21 runs. Left-arm googly bowler Tabraiz Shamsi had 2-13.
Patriots were never in the hunt as they sunk to their eighth loss  in nine games, being bowled out for 107 in 18.3 overs.

Evin Lewis top-scored with 49 but no other batter passed 15 as fast bowler Shamar Joseph captured 3-9, while Moeen Ali and skipper Imran Tahir had two wickets each.
The Warriors moved to eight points from six matches and will face off with the Antigua Falcons from 19:00hrs.
St Lucia Kings take on Barbados Royals at 10:00hrs in the other match today.

The Patriots invited the Warriors to bat under a clear night sky and a track which produced some turn for the spinners.
Watched by a capacity flag-waving and raucous home crowd which created a tremendous atmosphere, the Warriors, with Imran Tahir back at the helm, had a nightmare start.
Nedd removed both openers in his first over.

Nedd trapped Tim Robinson LBW when he missed a sweep off the second ball and bowled Kevin Sinclair; attempting a cut to have the Warriors  2-0. Shai Hope and a focused-looking Hetmyer took the score to 28
on a lush green outfield with Hetmyer launching a murderous assault on Nedd in an over which included three mighty sixes and cost 21 runs and the sold-out crowd was now dancing in the stands.
Kyle Mayers temporarily silenced the crowd when he removed Hope (7) at 28-3.

Ali joined Hetmyer who scored a record-breaking 91 when these two met in St Kitts and the pair took the score to 39-3 at the end of the power play.
Hetmyer was dropped on 31 off Anrich Norte with the score on 40-3 as the left-handed pair featured in ‘operation recovery’ with Ali content to play the supporting role.

Hetmyer, oozing confidence, hit Mayers for a boundary before pulling Dominic Drakes for a six and smashing the left- arm pacer for four.
The 50 was posted in the 11th over with Hetmyer scoring 39 and Ali contributing 10 and at the halfway stage the Warriors were 66-3.
Hetmyer soon reached his 21st 50 from 230 T20s from just 26 balls decorated with four fours and three sixes.

Ali played an out-of-character shot and was taken in the deep as left-armer Tabraiz Shamsi struck at 78-4 in the 12 th over.
Hetmyer seemed well set for his second ton in T20 cricket when he was LBW to Shamsi at 83-5 to the disappointment of the crowd.
Nedd was brought back at Hetmyer’s demise and had Keemo Paul (2) and Gudakesh Motie (0) with consecutive deliveries to leave the Warriors in a hole on 93-7 and when Dwaine
Pretorius (12) fell to Ryan John at 106-8 in the 18th, it seemed it would be an early night for the fans.

However, Shepherd who scored 51 against the Knight Riders in a losing effort, blasted a four and three sixes off John’s final over that cost 24 runs.
Shepherd’s knock provided the Warriors total with some respectability and the last six went through the hands of Drakes, who earlier dropped Pretorius off of Shamsi

When the Patriots began their reply they lost the experienced Andre Fletcher (15) LBW to Motie at 23-1 and never recovered despite a robust innings from the 32-year- old Lewis, who fell one short of what would have his 41st T20 50.
Wickets tumbled in a heap as only Rilee Rossouw (11) of the other batters reached double figures.
