In a powerful call to action, Halim Khan, President of the Guyana Cuban Solidarity Movement (GCSM), urged all regions to join the “Day for Peace, Against the Blockade and Terrorism,” a global initiative that began on September 4th and will continue until the United Nations General Assembly votes on a resolution to end the U.S. blockade against Cuba.

Khan emphasized the urgent need to defend peace in a world increasingly threatened by conflict. “We are at a critical juncture where the defense of peace is more urgent than ever,” Khan stated. “This day is an opportunity for us to unite around the fundamental principles of justice, equity, and mutual respect that govern our humanity.”

The initiative, which seeks to rally international support, is driven by three key motivations. Firstly, it calls for an immediate end to the violence against the Palestinian people, which Khan described as “genocide committed by the Zionist state of Israel, with the complicity of its Western partners.” He condemned these acts of aggression and highlighted the suffering of the Palestinian people.

Secondly, Khan called for the termination of the U.S. blockade against Cuba, which has been in place for over six decades, causing immense hardship to the Cuban people. “The blockade is an act of war and terror,” Khan declared, criticizing the United States for its unilateral designation of Cuba as a State Sponsor of Terrorism. “This designation is a blatant lie, designed to undermine the prestige that Cuba has earned through its unwavering commitment to international peace and cooperation.”

Lastly, Khan emphasized the importance of global solidarity in the fight for a more just world. “We call on all people to join in actions of awareness—whether through physical or virtual demonstrations, forums, debates, or cultural activities,” he urged. “Every action counts, every voice matters. Together, we can build a future without blockade or terrorism, where respect for human rights and the dignity of all peoples prevail.”

Under Khan’s leadership, the GCSM has been a steadfast advocate for Cuba, organizing numerous events to raise awareness about the impact of the U.S. blockade and promoting international solidarity. Khan’s dedication to the cause has earned him widespread respect and admiration, both within Guyana and beyond.

As the international community prepares to vote on the resolution at the United Nations, Khan remains optimistic that global pressure will lead to an end to the blockade. “The struggle for peace is universal,” he said. “Together, we can make our voices heard and contribute to a world where justice and equity are the cornerstones of international relations.”

The GCSM, under Khan’s dynamic leadership, continues to play a crucial role in advocating for peace, justice, and human rights on a global scale. As the world watches and waits for the outcome of the United Nations vote, Khan’s call for solidarity serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of standing together in the face of oppression and injustice.
