A ONE-WEEK camp aimed at reviving netball in Guyana and more so in Linden will commence next week Monday at the Mackenzie High school.
The camp comes following a meeting last Friday in Linden between Guyana Netball Association President Ms. Aileen Bowman and a group of persons interested in the resuscitation of the sport in the mining town.
The visit was initiated by Region Ten Youth Officer Ms. Kenesha Dey-Venture who identified key persons to bring the game back.
Ms. Bowman outlined the intention of the national body to resuscitate the sport which has been dormant in Linden for decades, and in Guyana over the past 15 years.
The group which met with Ms. Bowman included former top Linden netball player Ms. Denise Belgrave, veteran sports coach Abdulla Hamid, school teacher Ms. Odessa Adams, Dianta Phillips, Franklyn Kingston and veteran sports reporter Joe Chapman.
Ms. Bowman was accompanied by former national player and GNA Executive, Ms. Donnette Boston.
The sessions for a targeted 30 players will be next Monday through to Friday from 9.00 hours to 11.00 hours at the Mackenzie High School Hard Court in Retrieve.
Interested parents and children are asked to contact either Ms. Denise Belgrave 630-5661, Ms. Odessa Adams 664-6088, Mr. Abdulla Hamid 684-6115 or Ms. Phillips 500-1205 to register.
