Guyana’s Under- 14 national football team was handed a handsome defeat in the second match-up in its Tier II Group A in the Caribbean Football Union Boys’ Challenge Series on Saturday.
The contest saw the local boys being dominated from start to finish to lose 6-2 at Larry Gomes Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago.
Guyana, despite goals from Nyron Barrow and Jadan Christian, could not do enough to muster a comeback in a physical encounter between the two junior regional teams.
Barbados’s Trey Barker converted penalties in the 4th and 7th minute with Adam King also converting a penalty in the 9th minute as they took a comfortable lead early in the contest 3-nil.
Goals from locals Barrow and Christian on the verge of the break would follow to pull back the score line 3-2 at the break.
Barbados’ Jamarco Johnson would go on to record a hat-trick in the second period of play with his strikes in the 37th, 56th and 70 plus 4 minutes as the Barbados finished with 6-2 victory.
Meanwhile, Guyana, led by Coach Levi Brathwaite also had a stern test in their opener as they loss 2-1 to Antigua and Barbuda on Friday.
The Antiguan sides commanded the ball early in the match and captain Shemar Walters opened the scoring for Antigua and Barbuda with an excellent shot to the goal.
Guyana’s Mark Glasgow responded 13 minutes later with the equaliser in the 15th minute to keep Guyana’s hopes alive.
The score line was short-lived as Luke Harney Rogerson responded with a goal in the 21st minute of play, extending Antigua and Barbuda’s lead 2-1.
The second half saw Antigua and Barbuda dominating possession for most of the match to keep Guyana on the back foot to capture the victory.
