THE police in Regional Division #4A are investigating an industrial incident which occurred on Thursday, September 10, 2026, around 14:45hrs at an industrial site at Ruimveldt, Georgetown, resulting in the death of Gobin Persaud, a 76-year-old contractor of Dasrath Street, Triumph, East Coast Demerara.

According to information from the police, preliminary investigations revealed that Persaud was walking in the compound when he reportedly walked behind motor truck GPP 6272, which was reversing at the time. The truck reportedly struck Persaud, causing him to fall, after which the rear wheels of the vehicle ran over him.

An alarm was raised and the truck came to a stop. Emergency medical technicians were subsequently summoned and Persaud was examined by a doctor on duty, who pronounced him dead.

The body was escorted to a funeral home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The 22-year-old truck driver of Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara, is assisting the police with the ongoing investigation.
