Murder suspect shot in buttocks by ‘cops’ during escape bid

POLICE ranks who were on mobile patrol duties in Georgetown managed to apprehend Quacy Jamal Craig, a wanted murder suspect, at about 22:45 hrs on Friday.

The police ranks stopped a black Allion motor car (#PAC 9713) near Pegasus Hotel on Seawall Road, Kingston, Georgetown.

The vehicle was being driven by Craig, a 36-year-old supervisor from West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme, Georgetown, who is wanted by the police for questioning in respect to an alleged murder committed on Dexter Hersham, which occurred on August 11, 2023, at West Ruimveldt.

Craig’s 33-year-old reputed wife, Dane Wienzen, was in the vehicle at the time. One of the patrol ranks, a Sergeant, informed Craig that he was wanted for questioning in relation to the murder of Hersham and arrested him.

Police searched the car, but nothing of evidential value was found. The Sergeant then told Craig to drive the car, with his reputed wife and another rank inside, to the Ruimveldt Police Station. Two other ranks followed behind on a motorcycle.

A press release from Police Headquarters reported that upon arrival in front of the Ruimveldt Police Station, Craig made a sudden left turn and drove off at a fast rate into Yarrow Dam, causing the motorcycle ranks to give chase.

The police claimed that Craig drove to a point where the vehicle could not go further, stopped the car, exited the vehicle and began to run in an eastern direction.

“Craig jumped several fences, and he was called upon several times by the pursuing ranks to stop, but he continued running, and eventually jumped into a nearby trench.

One of the ranks, who was armed with a service pistol, discharged one round in Craig’s direction, hitting him on his buttocks,” the press release noted.

Craig was then apprehended and escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was examined by a doctor and admitted a patient under police guard.
