A 32-year-old driver lost his life on Monday, after the fuel tanker he was operating overturned along the Aurora Tapir trail in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).

Dead is Tyrone Anthony, a resident of Supenaam, Essequibo Coast.
According to a police release, an investigation is currently ongoing into the fatal incident, which occurred around 17:35 hours on December 18, 2023, at the 16-kilometer Aurora/Tapir trail in Region Seven.

The fuel tanker involved, bearing licence plate #GAD 3757, is owned by Demerara Transportation Limited.
“Enquiries disclosed that the fuel tanker was proceeding South along the trail, and while negotiating a turn down a slope, the tanker developed a mechanical problem causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and ‘run off’ the trail,” the police said.

As a result, Anthony was flung out of the fuel tanker and pinned down on the ground. He was picked up in an unconscious state by a passerby and taken to the Aurora Medical Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
