POLICE are investigating a fatal accident which occurred on Saturday at about 18:15 hours on Hill Foot, Soesdyke/Linden Highway.
The accident involved motor car PJJ 807, owned and driven by Jonathan Bailey, a 23-year-old of Kuru Kururu Soesdyke; motor car PMM 2014, owned and driven by Steffy Timmerman, a 27-year-old of Kuru Kururu (who’s not the holder of a driver’s licence) and pedestrian Vishnudat Ramlan (now deceased), a 52-year-old of Lot 5 Kuru Kururu, a police press release said.
“Enquiries disclosed that motor car PMM 2014 was proceeding East along the northern side of the highway when it was alleged by the driver of motor car PMM 2014 that while driving, she observed a male in the centre of the northern drive lane and on seeing that, she pulled North but her right-side wing mirror collided with the pedestrian, after which motor car PJJ 807, which was proceeding in the same direction at a fast rate, overtook motor car PMM 2014, and collided with the pedestrian.”
“As a result of the collision, the pedestrian fell onto the road surface where he received injuries to his head and on his body.”
“He was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was seen and examined by doctors on duty and was pronounced dead on arrival,” the release added.
The body of the deceased was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Both drivers were arrested and are assisting with the investigation.
