Former champions, Beacons FC, registered an emphatic 6-0 triumph over bottom team, Lazio, on Monday (24th July) to move within a point of cup holders, Rivers View, at the top of the 9-team Senior Men’s League (SML) points table of the Bartica FA.

Clint Kellman opened the scoring in the 32nd minute and Whitney Welcome doubled the lead 3 minutes later. Thirteen minutes into the 2nd half, Kellman netted again to increase the advantage to 3-0. A 5-minute 3-goal blitz initiated by Jermaine Christian in the 65th minute ended a humbling night for Lazio. Also getting on the score sheet were Oswin Joseph in the 69th minute and Shameer Mentore sixty seconds later.

It was the 3rd win from 5 matches and helped Beacons to 11 points and 2nd place, overtaking Potaro Strikers by one point. For Lazio it was the 3rd loss as they remain at the bottom of the table with a solitary point after 4 outings.

The other game was highlighted by Ian Gomes whose hat-trick singlehandedly disposed of Wolves United. Gomes found the target in the 32nd, 55th and 57th minutes to secure a second victory for Rising Stars who moved to 8 points and remain in 4th position after 6 games.
Wolves, who took the lead in the 2nd minute thanks to Ivelaw Ramsdeen, have played a game less and were left on 3 points in 6th place.

Another double-header is slated for tonight (Wednesday July26th) at the Bartica Community Centre ground where Potaro Strikers meet Mil Ballers at 7:00 pm, followed by AK Galaxy against Agatash United at 9:00 pm.
