WORKS for the widening of the public road in the Diamond/Grove, East Bank Demerara area are moving apace, and on schedule for its August 2023 completion.

This is according to the Ministry of Public Works, which stated that this project falls under the transport infrastructure programme for the East Bank Highway and the rehabilitation of public and main access roads, which contains several phases.

The first phase of this project caters for the construction of concrete drains at Grove, while the second deals with the widening of the road in Diamond: Back Street, Diamond, Third Avenue Diamond and First Bridge, New Grove.

Other phases include the building and widening of bridges to link New Grove to Kaneville and Grove to Good Success.

The press release noted that “The bridge at Kaneville, the Kaneville Main Access Road, and for Grove: Back Street, 5th Cross Street and Third Street will all be rehabilitated and widened. And then at the second bridge linking Grove to Good Success, the Good Success Sideline Dam will also be widened and rehabilitated.”

In the update, it was noted that the current works that are underway prior to the start of the IDB-funded East Bank Demerara Highway to Soesdyke are set to be completed by August 2023. These projects it was noted are being done through local funding.

In February, Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, conducted a visit and noted that the traffic congestion along the stretch of road at Diamond/Grove occurs as a result of the narrowness of the roadway along with various encumbrances.

This project he said will provide significant relief to road users who traverse the area.
