Coach Mills fancies Georgetown chances to win

THE points’ standings following match-day five of the Tiger Rentals’ National Under-13 development football league saw Georgetown and East Coast registering victories to continue their unbeaten run in the Inter club/Inter-Association arm of the round-robin tournament. The two teams are currently tied on 13 points each with East Coast ahead on goal difference.
Head Coach of the Georgetown, former Golden Jaguar Midfield, Vurlon Mills, during an interview with Chronicle Sport, mentioned that this tournament has been a great learning experience not only for him but other coaches and he thinks Georgetown can emerge champions of this inaugural and historic competition.
“We have to continue to take our chances. We have to play organised and as a team. We need to organise our roles. The Georgetown brand of playing is to keep the ball. Our play is possession- based until we create an opportunity to score and although I believe the lads have done this well, we have become a bit complacent at times”, Mills posited.
Coach Mills, who is also the operator of the popular Vurlon Mills Football Academy (VMFA) underlined the importance of this Tiger Rentals U-13 football tournament for the players.
“If we really want to target development and take Guyana to higher heights in the future and if we want to qualify for any major tournament, this is the age group to target. It’s important for this age group to have games consistently,” Mills posited.
He continued saying that, “Lack of games has hindered football development a lot in Guyana. So these tournaments are good and we need to continue on this pathway.”
Mills expressed thanks to the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and more importantly, the sponsor – Tiger Rentals Guyana – for supporting football development in Guyana through this tournament.
The former Fruta Conquerors man also revealed his belief that the Tiger Rentals under-13 development tournament was super beneficial to the continued development of not only himself but other coaches.
“It is very important to the coaches, just as the players. Every game is a learning process. You get a chance to come back and work on things that your team may be lacking. And, I believe that the more you teach, the more you learn”, Mills highlighted.
Tiger Rentals Guyana has invested $10M for the first Nationwide development under-13 competition to ever be played in Guyana.
