THE body of missing New York Police Department (NYPD) veteran officer, Gladstone Haynes was, on Wednesday, discovered three days after he went missing while swimming at Orinduik Falls in North Pakaraimas.

Haynes was vacationing with his wife, 34-year-old United States of America (USA) citizen, Vanessa Alicia Vassell. The duo was a part of a tour from Ogle Airport to Kaieteur Falls which then proceeded to Orinduik Falls, on Sunday, when the tragedy struck.

Vassell was celebrating her birth anniversary.

According to a report from the Guyana Police Force (GPF), Haynes’ body was discovered on Wednesday at 06:30 hrs.

Haynes allegedly drowned while swimming at Orinduik Falls.

“Enquiries disclosed that Gladstone was swimming below the Orinduik Falls in the water, which was high and streaming heavily at the time. He reportedly went under the surface of the water and disappeared,” the release stated.

A party of police ranks and other persons went in search of Gladstone but his body was not found until Wednesday.

Haynes was a part of the NYPD 70 Precinct and served the City of New York for nearly 18 years.

“Officer Gladstone Haynes was a good, humble man…May he Rest in Peace and may God bless the Haynes family,” the precinct posted on their social media pages.
