HIGH Court Judge, Sandil Kissoon, on Tuesday, sentenced Andrew Blackman to nine years in prison for raping a 14-year-old girl.
The Mackenzie, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) resident, last month, admitted to raping the teen between September 10-11, 2021.
Justice Kissoon, during his sentencing remarks on Tuesday, underscored the physical and psychological trauma the victim has had to face, and continued to face.
The judge, after taking into consideration the nature and prevalence of the offence, sentenced Blackman to nine years.
According to reports, Blackman is a friend of the victim’s parents and would often visit their home.
On the day in question, Blackman took the child to an abandoned building in Linden and raped her.
The child was found after a search party was launched by her parents. Blackman was arrested at the scene by police.
