SENIOR Magistrate Fabayo Azore, on Thursday, remanded a 26-year-old former Guyana Defence Force (GDF) rank to prison for attempting to murder his girlfriend.

James Cadogan of Haslington, East Coast Demerara (ECD), appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court and was not required to plead to the charge.

Particulars of the charge alleged that Cadogan, on July 5, 2022, at Paradise, ECD, wounded 24-year-old Zenida April, with intent to commit murder.

He was remanded to prison until September 19.

According to reports, the couple was living together in Paradise. April is a serving member of GDF.

It is alleged that, on July 4, April and Cadogan had an argument and it was then that he threatened to kill her with a knife. The woman became fearful for her life and escaped to her mother’s home.

The next day, April along with several family members went back to her home to move out her belongings since she wished to end the relationship with the man.

While at the home, April was confronted by Cadogan, who was armed with a knife. It is alleged that he dealt her several stabs about her body.

The victim’s mother reportedly rushed to her rescue and was allegedly injured by Cadogan, who later made good his escape.

April and her mother were rushed to the hospital and treated for their injuries. According to the police, April is still hospitalised. Cadogan was later arrested and charged.
