THE Junior Caribbean Area Squash Championships (CASA) will start today at Georgetown Club and the National Racquet Centre.
Athletes have come from Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, St Vincent & The Grenadines, and Trinidad & Tobago.

In round one of the Boys U-11, number-one seeded Ben Phang will play Dylan Innis of Trinidad and Tobago at the Racquet Centre on Court Two from 11:00hrs, simultaneously as Mason Smith and Varad Maharaj face each other.

For the Girls U-11, Guyanese Zoe McDonald and Dwileen Coates compete from 11:30hrs at the Racquet Centre.
Three Boys U-13 round-of-16 matches will be played from 09:00hrs at Georgetown Club. Guyana’s Jeremey Ten-Pow faces Trinidadian D’Juran Ross; Barbadian Ben Shepherd play BVI’s Levie Jack and Daniel Sealy of Barbados battle Cole Brown of Jamaica.

Brenno DaSilva drew a bye and will face Jayden George of St Vincent in the quarter-finals from 15:00hrs.
For Girls U-13, Trinidadian Jose Thong opposes Guyanese Jane Singh, and Guyana’s Kaylee Lowe plays Bermudan Kymie McKenna from 11:00hrs.

Kirsten Gomes could cop the Under-19 title

The two matches at 11:30hrs will feature three Guyanese. The first will pit Avery Arjoon against Barbadian Lenna Hamati then Tiana Gomes will do battle with Emily Fung-A-Fat. The semi-finals are scheduled for Monday from 15:30hrs.

Guyanese Noah Rahaman swings into action for the Boys U-15 when he faces Jaydon Williams of St Vincent from 16:00hrs, half-an-hour after the clash between Chad DeAbreu and Barbadian Benjamin King.
Joshua Verwey will await the outcome of Justin Ten-Pow and Eli Carpol meet from 09:30hrs, for this first match at 15:30hrs.

Title favourite Shiloh Asregado clashes with Trinidadian from 15:30hrs at the Racquet Centre.
Rylee Rodrigues starts her campaign against Mya Francois from 10:30hrs, and if successful, would play her quarter-final match against Jamaican Mehar Trehan from 17:30hrs.

Safirah Summer meets Mariella Young of Barbados from 10:30hrs and Malia Mikoo starts against BVI’s Doireann Lynch while Paige Mendonca has Rose Paulos in her way for a quarter-final clash with Ciara George.

In the U-17, Kassia Walcott drew a bye for a quarter-final clash at 17:30hrs at the Racquet Centre while Nicholas Verwey drew a bye to the quarter-finals from 16:30hrs. Nathan Rahaman will face Bradley Holmes of Jamaica from 16:00hrs, and Mohryan Baksh will battle Luke Wilson of Barbados.

Louis DaSilva comes against Xavier Marshall. Michael Aphonso has a bye.
In the Under-19, clear title favourite Shomari Wiltshire has a bye and will start his quest in the quarter-final from 17:30hrs while Zachary Persaud faces Rhys Greenland of Jamaica
Samuel Ince-Carvalhal, who many feel could face Wiltshire in an all-Guyanese final, starts against Jamaica’s Dylan at 10:00hrs.

Abosaide Cadogan opens her title quest at 18:30hrs against Trinidadian Charlotte Sutcliffe while Kirsten Gomes competes at the same time against Ariana Lowther.
Matches will be live-streamed on the Guyana Squash Association’s Facebook page, compliments of E-Networks.
Since 2017, when Guyana were dethroned by Barbados at home, they have not added a title to their 12 consecutive overall championship trophies, but there is hope brewing that the 13th title could be copped this year.
