THE Officer Cadets currently undergoing training on the Reserve Officer Course 17 have been promoted to the rank of Ensign.
Forty professionals from various disciplines including teaching, engineering, and medicine enlisted on the course which is designed to produce an Officer capable of leading and administering a platoon in augmenting the regular Force.
According to the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), the Reserve Officer will also be required to fulfill civil defence and other roles of the Reserve, while upholding the Values and Standard of the Force.
The Ensigns were decorated with the new badges of rank by Brigadier Godfrey Bess, on Thursday, at the Colonel Ulric Pilgrim Officer Cadet School Lecture Hall, Base Camp Stephenson, Timehri, after the scheduled Ensigncy Parade had to be curtailed due to inclement weather.
In a short address to the Ensigns, Brigadier Bess commended the professionals on their choice to enlist as well as their determination to stay the course.
“Thank you for joining this noble profession and we look forward to your commissioning as Reserve Officers. I trust that you are eager about your future role in contributing to the continued development of the Guyana Defence Force,” he said.
