COMPETING in the finals of the Women’s 100m at the Trinidad and Tobago National Championship, Guyana’s Jasmine Abrams clocked 11.07 seconds to finish second at the Haseley Crawford Stadium over the weekend.
In the process, Abrams erased Brenessa Thompson’s time of 11.14s, which was set at Leonora during the 2018 Aliann Pompey Invitational, to be the new national record-holder.
Jasmine joins her sister, Aliyah Abrams as the country’s two qualifiers thus far for the World Athletics Championships in Oregon from July 15-24.
Athletics Guyana president, Aubrey Hutson, said he was impressed with Jasmine and hopes she peaks at the right time to perform well at the World Championships.
Noting Jasmine is a “hard worker”, Hutson indicated that her coach Jermey Bascom is “tailoring her programme” based on speaking with various international coaches to allow her to peak at the right time.
According to Hutson, should Jasmine improve her times, she should make the 100m final at the World Championships.
