MISHKA Beharry and Priyanna Ramdhani played their way to two titles each at the Guyana Badminton Association’s World Badminton Day tournament, which concluded over the weekend at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

The youngster, Beharry, won the U15 Girls Singles after getting past Naveah Eastman, and the U19 Girl’s Singles after beating Alima Eastman. She also finished second in the U23 Girl’s Singles to Guyana’s top female player, Ramdhani, while she placed joint third in the Open Women’s Doubles with Priyanka Shivnath.

Along with the U23 title, Ramdhani also won the Open Women’s Doubles title with Ambika Ramraj, after a win against Christina Kumar and Anna Perreira.

Ayanna Watson and Emelia Ramdhani (Priyanna’s mother) also finished joint third.

In the other female division, Eva Bowling won the U11 title, while Kristin Bhagwandin finished second.

In the U11 Boy’s Singles, John Thomas finished ahead of Francis Thomas, with Lester Thomas and Manvir Sharma tying for third.

Aiden Bhagwandin finished first in the U15 Boy’s Singles, with Gabriel Felix in second, and Nikolas Pollard and Nathan Morrison coming a joint third.

The U19 Boy’s Singles was won by Matthew Beharry, with Jonathan Debidin second, and Manav Sharma and Jonathan Robinson tied for third.

Akili Haynes emerged victorious in the U23 Boy’s Singles, ahead of fellow national player, Tyrese Jeffrey, with Beharry and Jaurel Hendricks tied for third.

In the Open Men’s Doubles, Marlon Chung and Jonathan Mangra emerged victorious against Haynes and Jeffrey, while Veerendra Bhagwandin and Anthony Stephens, and Hendricks and Beharry finished tied for third.

The event was sponsored by Total Solutions, and included players of the Nursery Badminton Academy, the brainchild of the Minister of Culture Youth and Sport.
