A MIXED 12-member jury was empanelled on Thursday for the trial of Sherwin Clarke, called ‘Hot Skull,’ who is accused of killing 76-year-old David Ramkissoon during a home invasion in 2016.

Clarke appeared before Justice Sandil Kissoon at the Demerara High Court. He denied murdering Ramkissoon on August 21, 2016, at the now-deceased man’s Better Hope, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home.

Clarke was represented by attorney-at-law Damien DaSilva, while the state was represented by prosecutor Muntaz Ali.

The trial commenced on Thursday with the evidence of the victim’s daughter-in-law Nalini Kissoon, and another civilian witness. The trial continues on June 13.

According to the prosecution’s case, on the day in question, the victim was at home when Clarke along with others invaded the building and robbed him. During the robbery, his throat was slit.

The matter was reported to the police after relatives returned from the creek and discovered Ramkissoon’s body. Clarke was later arrested and charged with the murder.
