PRESIDENT Dr. Irfaan Ali on Monday said that love, humility and peace are pivotal to improving life for all Guyanese.

The Head of State made this statement on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, a celebration that marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

“Ramadan emphasises to us not only as Muslims, but emphasises to humanity as a family that we are created with the ability to love. We are created with the ability to be peaceful. We are created with the ability to be humbled. We are created with the ability to be charitable. We are created with the ability to make sacrifices. We are created with the ability to be respectful. We are created with ability to love and more importantly, we are created with the ability to be better than we are,” he said.

As he reminded all Guyanese that this type of reflection should be used to assess purpose and the understanding of unity and oneness, he noted that “we are but one”.

President Ali stated that Eid invites us to become exemplary embodiments of the truth which we profess and reminds us of the virtue of sacrificing some of our own comforts for the benefit of others.

“We are nothing but the same. There is absolutely no difference based on any character, whether rich or poor. Regardless of their status, we stand together and it is these principles and these examples that we were able to demonstrate ourselves that will allow us to be better humans, that will allow us to be better citizens, that will allow us to be a better country and allow us to be a better world. So, if we are to ensure that the virtues and blessings of Ramadan continues and the blessings of Ramadan continues, then we should all aspire to take some of this forward, the take some of this power so that our lives can be completely improved,” he added.

He advised citizens that even while the holy month of Ramadan has ended, they should continue to practice these virtues in their everyday lives.

“Now that we have proven to ourselves once again, that we have this ability, then we must make it a way of life,” he noted.

President Ali further reminded citizens to stand up against injustice and to stand up for principles, the rule of law and democracy.
