Essequibo receives $4M worth of gear, while Upper Demerara set to collect
THE Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) recently embarked on an empowerment exercise, which includes the distribution of several cricket gear.
This contribution is being made to support the county boards’ efforts in assisting their affiliates with the equipment required for training and matches.
Recently, Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) was the recipient of over $4M in equipment from the GCB.
GCB president Bissoondyal Singh was very enthusiastic about the occasion. He explained that given the relaxing of COVID-19 measures that several activities will be conducted across the country.
These activities involve both training and matches, so it will be essential for counties and associations to have an adequate quantity of cricket gear to support the player development plans. Singh said, “Among the GCB plans for 2022 are school cricket activities which will be rolled out towards the end of April with training of 150 teachers from 75 primary schools.
This is to support a sponsored pilot project from a reputable commercial business. Once the teachers receive the necessary cricket training, attention will shift to the training pupils before the competition is played.
This is a sponsored project from a reputable commercial business. So, GCB felt there was need for this significant donation.
” We trust that those responsible will make full use of the gear and look forward to seeing talented players come out from the scheduled programmes and the rise in standard of cricket being played locally.”
Further, Singh commended the ECB for its proactive approach to cricket development, having just been elected, and the new executives being able to conduct major development activities within a short space of time.
He said, “This includes the ECB Under-15 training and competition activities and the coordinating of a coaching education programme. This is an enormous feat and I implore you to build on this foundation you have set.”
President of the ECB, Deleep Singh, was high in praise for the GCB president and the GCB. He indicated that his executives and all affiliate committees are grateful for such an enormous contribution. The ECB president pointed out that the value of the gear goes beyond its $4M worth.
This quantity and way of distribution will enable many players to freely access gear and to participate in development activities.
He indicated that several children interested in playing the game can now focus on getting themselves to the ground in appropriate attire and participate in the development activities.
The ECB head stressed that his board would continue to create the environment for players to grow and look forward to sustained energy and continued support from the members of the seven ECB committees.
