THE Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) has acquired the services of Cuban high-level coach, Osdani Romero Garcia, for a period of three months to assist the association with fortifying and rebuilding the national team training structure.
According to president of the GTTA, Godfrey Munroe, “the fortifying and implementation of structured national team training is a critical and strategic element for the development of our athletes and the sport”.
Munroe noted that the coach is expected to provide high-quality training to members of the Guyana national team at the Cadet, Junior and Senior levels, while working with local coaches.
During the three months, local players are expected to improve their technical, tactical, physical and psychological development.
The GTTA head also pointed out that the stint will be used to prepare the players to improve their skills for upcoming international events.
He said that the aim is to “transition the correct knowledge, approach, discipline, culture and concepts towards training”.
This will be Mr Garcia’s second stint in Guyana. In 2019 he completed a one-year stint here.
Coach Garcia is a graduate from the Universidad de Sancti Spiritus José Marti Pérez (UNISS), in Cuba. He graduated with a degree in Sports Science and Physical Education and a diploma in High-Performance training.
