One new COVID-19 case recorded

THE Ministry of Health has reported that there are currently 87 active COVID-19 cases in Guyana, following the addition of one new case on April 4, 2022, from the 213 persons who were tested over a 24-hour period.

The newly confirmed case was recorded in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).

The country has now recorded a total of 63,273 cases since March 2020.

Of the active cases, four persons are in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the National Infectious Diseases Hospital, Liliendaal; eight are in institutional isolation; 68 are in home isolation, and seven are in institutional quarantine.

Recovered cases stand at 61,967 while the number of deaths remain at 1,226.

Meanwhile, Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony, said in his daily COVID-19 update that a downward trend has been noticed in the vaccination rates.

“Right now, it is a big struggle to get people vaccinated,” Dr. Anthony said.

He reiterated that persons will not be protected against the novel coronavirus unless they are vaccinated.

He stated that 85.5 per cent of Guyana’s adult population have received the first dose, while 65.7 per cent have received their second dose. For ages 12-17, 47.1 per cent have received their first dose and 34.3 per cent have received their second dose.
