FOLLOWING the postponement from last year, Archery Guyana’s Seven Seas Indoor Championship 2021 recently concluded at the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) following two nights of action.

The competition commenced Tuesday, February 15, 2022 with the Ranking Rounds which determined the pairing of archers for the competitive elimination shoot out on Thursday 17th February, 2022.

Archers were keenly awaiting the exciting 18-Metre Indoor Championship for men and women of all ages in two categories: Recurve and Barebow.

For the Recurve competition, Samira Duncan took 1st place (gold medal) and Vidushi Persaud-McKinnon placed second. The men’s contest was keenly contested as Umasankar Madray reigned supreme, earning the coveted 1st place (gold medal). Jeewanram Persaud ended in 2nd place (silver medal) with Fabian Ramdatt receiving 3rd place (bronze medal).

For the Barebow competition, Jeewanram Persaud finished in 1st place (gold medal) followed by Nicholas Hing in 2nd place (silver medal) and Sean Duncan, 3rd place (bronze medal).

The competition was successfully conducted under supervision of the Director of Shooting, Ryan McKinnon and the Competitions Committee, together with the Chair of the Judges Committee, Mr Robert Singh and his team of nationally certified judges. The competition was customised to meet strict COVID-19 guidelines.

This annual indoor championship was sponsored by Seven Seas and the archers were kept hydrated by Archery Guyana’s sponsor Oasis Water. Participants and spectators at the event were refreshed with Guyana Beverages Inc.’s new Sports Drink, Altitude.

The Board of Archery Guyana expressed thanks for Seven Seas’ continued collaboration as a competition sponsor. Special thanks go to the Management of Massy Distribution (Guyana) Inc. and Seven Seas as Archery Guyana moves forward to promote the sport of Archery in Guyana.

Seven Seas also provided branded masks and special packages, which were made available to the respective winners, were deeply appreciated.

The next competition for Archery Guyana will be the Outdoor Championships set for Sunday, March 6, at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
