TWO women and a man were, on Friday, arraigned before Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court for drug trafficking.
Simeon Lawson, 30; Veronica Walker, 54; and Leshella Walker, 34 were charged for allegedly having 3.868 kilogrammes of cannabis in their possession for the purpose of trafficking on February 2, 2022, at their Lot 33 St Paul Street, Rose Hall, Corentyne, Berbice, home.
The Walkers pleaded not guilty to the charge and were released on $250,000 bail. Lawson then pleaded guilty to the charge but later changed his plea to not guilty. This resulted in the magistrate remanding him to prison.
The case was adjourned until February 15, 2022.
According to a Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) statement, ranks acted on information received through a tip-off and carried out an operation at the defendants’ home.
During the operation, the statement continued, a salt bag containing several parcels of suspected cannabis was discovered.
It was reported that the suspected narcotics were tested and confirmed to be marijuana.The drugs weighed a total of 3.868 kilogrammes and has a street value of $1,160,400.
