WITH assistance from the private sector, the Line Path/Corriverton Community Policing Groups (CPGs) distributed hampers and toys to the elderly and children in the Upper Corentyne area, East Berbice-Corentyne, on Christmas Day.

CPG administrator Rishi Das, said an outreach was made to the business community and the Upper Corentyne CPG group and they decided that they would provide assistance to the less fortunate during the festive season as their way of giving back to the community.

He noted that since taking office in 2020, Minister Benn has been keen on ensuring that communities are safe.

As such, Das explained that the CPGs will execute projects in all 10 administrative regions across Guyana as their way of giving back to the various communities they serve.

Among the projects being executed this year is the construction of a bus shed at Mabaruma, while hamper distribution and toy drives are being done in the other regions.

In the Upper Corentyne area, mostly elderly folk were given hampers with the oldest recipient being 97. Das assured the residents that as long as he remains in office he will continue to make the distribution drive an annual event. He also related that he was fortunate to see first-hand the reaction and hear of how much the little gesture meant to the recipients.
