CHRISTMAS at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) got off to a bright start with the traditional Soldiers Day celebration for troops serving at the border location of Eteringbang, on Thursday.
Chief of Staff, Brigadier Godfrey Bess and team took Christmas cheer to the soldiers and thanked them for their service throughout the year.
Brigadier Bess acknowledged that troops serving on the borders are the frontliners and the force is grateful for the level of commitment and professionalism they continue to portray.
“Being away from family at this time of year is in itself a sacrifice that you make for your country to ensure that the nation’s territorial integrity is maintained. On behalf of the entire nation, I express our thanks to you and I wish you all a peaceful and safe Christmas season,” he stated.
The Chief of Staff also urged the soldiers to continue to maintain and observe COVID-19 protocols.
Together with the members of the visiting team, Brigadier Bess served lunch to the soldiers and their guests who comprised ranks of the Guyana Police Force and residents of the surrounding community.
