ALEX Ferreira, 19, of Culvert , Central Rupununi, Region Nine, was on Sunday killed after the motorcycle he was riding slammed into a taxi on the Tabatinga bridge, Central Rupununi.

According to police headquarters, the driver of hire car with registration number HC 2059 was proceeding north along the western side of the Tabatinga Public Road, reportedly at 20kmph. On approaching a nearby bridge, he observed motorcycle with registration CK 2076 approaching from the opposite direction in a reckless manner and at a fast rate of speed.

Upon seeing the motorcar, police said the motorcyclist applied brakes and subsequently lost control, colliding with the front right side of the motorcar.

As a result of the collision, the teenager fell onto the road surface which caused him to receive injuries to the body.

The motorcyclist was later picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited citizens and was taken to the Lethem Regional Hospital where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body is currently lying in the Lethem Regional Hospital Mortuary awaiting an autopsy. A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver and no alcohol was detected in his system. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
