Scenes from President Ali’s engagements with foreign officials at COP26

EVEN as he made his official address to the 26th meeting of the Conference of Parties (COP26) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Scotland, President Dr. Irfaan Ali also found time to meet with foreign officials, as he continued to champion Guyana’s expanded Low Carbon Development Strategy 2030 (LCDS 2030) which was recently launched in Guyana.

President, Dr. Irfaan Ali met the Prince of Wales, His Royal Highness Prince Charles, and the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Baroness Patricia Scotland, at the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) in Glasgow, Scotland
\During discussions with the Minister of European Neighbourhood and the Americas (Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office) in the United Kingdom, Wendy Morton and her team, President Ali outlined Guyana’s plan to mitigate the effects of climate change and spoke about areas of urgent attention for the country, as well as the rest of the Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
President, Dr. Irfaan Ali was also interviewed by Cathy Newman of the UK’s Channel 4. During the interview, he spoke of Guyana’s carbon credit arrangement with Norway, the need for the international community and private sector to engage in compensation for maintaining forests, and Guyana’s confidence in Brazil for its part in the deforestation commitment
