THE Guyana Police Force (GPF) is searching for answers after an inmate held at the Springlands Police Station was discovered dead, hanging from the door of his cell, just before 15:00 hrs on Tuesday.

A statement from the GPF said the deceased, Chattergoon Sookhoo of No. 77 Housing Scheme, Corentyne, was reportedly the only inmate at the police station at the time. The statement further noted that the man was found hanging by the cord from the track pants he was wearing.

The police said Sookhoo was arrested and placed in the lockups at about 13:00 hrs on Monday last following a report of abuse and threatening behaviour made against him by his reputed wife.

The now-dead man was expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
