COVID-19 claims five more lives

FIVE more persons have died after contracting COVID-19, taking Guyana’s overall death toll to 783, the Ministry of Health has reported.

The latest fatalities include three males: a 28-year-old from Region Four, and a 33-year-old and 17-year-old, both from Region Three. The females who died are a 55-year-old from Region 10 and a 66-year-old from Region Three. They were all unvaccinated.

According to additional information from the Ministry of Health, Region Four accounted for 169 of the 279 new cases; Region Two, 20 cases; Region Three, 52; Region Five, four; Region Six, 10; Region Seven, five; Region Eight, three; Region Nine, six, and Region Ten, 10.
Even as new cases were recorded, 123 persons were reported to have recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to date to 26,762.

The country has now recorded a total of 31,638 confirmed cases since the first COVID-19 case was reported in March 2020.
Of the active cases, 31 persons are at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the National Infectious Diseases Hospital, Liliendaal; 136 are in institutional isolation; 3,926 are in home isolation, and 11 are in institutional quarantine.

The updated COVID–19 Emergency Measures are in force until September 30, 2021. They may be extended or amended by notice of the Minister of Health, after an assessment of the prevailing public health conditions of the pandemic.

As per the current measures, all persons are required to wear face masks when leaving their homes, and physical distancing and adequate sanitisation are recommended. The current curfew is 22:30hrs to 04:00hrs.
