A 44-year-old porknocker was on Wednesday released on $150,000 bail on a drug-trafficking charge.
Sherwin Jackson, of No. 54 Village, Berbice, Corentyne appeared before Magistrate Crystal Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Particulars of the charge allege that on September 21, at Bartica, he had 495 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
Magistrate Lambert released Jackson on $150,000 bail, and adjourned the case until October 22, 2021.
According to reports, on the day in question, police went to the Bartica Arcade, on First Avenue, Bartica, and allegedly saw Jackson carrying two bags.
Upon seeing the police, Jackson reportedly tried to flee, but was apprehended by the ranks who gave chase.
When searched, he was allegedly found to have in the bag he was carrying a bulky parcel wrapped in transparent plastic, and was immediately arrested.
Apparently believing that the game was up, he allegedly confessed to the crime under caution.
