THE High Court retrial of Kevin Mohan called “Chucky,” who is accused of killing his aunt, will commence today before a 12-member jury.

Mohan, 27, formerly of Fifth Street, Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, on Monday pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on September 4, 2016, at Cummings Lodge, he murdered 48-year-old Anita Mohan.

Justice Sandil Kissoon will preside over the trial which is being held at the Demerara High Court.

The accused is being represented by attorney-at-law Damian DaSilva, while prosecutors Taneisha Saygon, Lisa Cave and Muntaz Ali are on report for the state.

In March 2021, the case was sent for retrial after a jury was unable to arrive at a verdict. The case was before Justice Navindra Singh.

According to reports, the woman’s battered body was found on the floor of her kitchen at Fifth Street, Cummings Lodge, where she lived with Mohan and her son, Intiaz Khan. Khan found his mother lying in blood with her head bashed in and a stab wound to her chest.

A bloody ‘rolling pin,’ suspected to be one of the murder weapons, as well as a broken bottle, was found close to the body. The police had noted that the accused confessed to the murder and admitted also that another person acted as his accomplice.

A post-mortem performed on the remains of the woman revealed that she died from multiple injuries.
