Man accused of ganja trafficking remanded

A man, who was allegedly caught with over eight pounds of cannabis at Mon Repos (South) East Coast Demerara, was, on Monday, remanded to prison for drug trafficking.

Romel Ramsingh appeared before Magistrate Alisha George at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on July 17, 2021, at Mon Repos, he had 3,730 grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Magistrate George remanded Ramsingh to prison until August 31.
According to reports, on the day in question, Ramsingh was seen by police with a plastic bag in his hand acting in a suspicious manner. It is alleged that he attempted to discard the plastic bag into a parked motor van. He was confronted and a search of the bag unearthed the narcotics. Ramsingh was arrested and later charged for the offence.
