A PARTNERSHIP for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) Member of Parliament (MP), Annette Ferguson, was, on Friday, released on self-bail for alleged cyberbullying.
Ferguson appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that, on June 15, 2021, she used a computer system to humiliate or harass Colonel Omar Khan, a member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
The former government minister was represented by attorney-at-law Lyndon Amsterdam, who made an application for reasonable bail.
Magistrate Daly later released her on self-bail and adjourned the matter until July 26.
On Wednesday, Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum received legal advice from the Police Legal Officer to institute a charge of using a computer system to humiliate a person, contrary to Section 19 (5) (a) of the Cybercrime Act, against Ferguson.
On June 30, 2021, Ferguson was arrested after the senior GDF rank made a report about a Facebook post which falsely claimed that he had been earmarked to be in charge of “a killing squad”.
