ALTHOUGH Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson were there at the crease to hit the winning runs in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final against India, it was Kyle Jamieson who had the bigger impact in the game by picking up seven wickets across both innings.

Fittingly, he was also named the player-of-the-match. Impressed by the lanky pacer in the marquee clash, Sachin Tendulkar lavished praise on the pacer’s ability with the ball and bat in hand.
In his short career so far, Jamieson has picked a staggering 46 Test wickets at a scarcely believable average of 14.17 in just eight Tests. Apart from his bowling, Jamieson is also a handy lower-order batter, and this impressed Tendulkar.

The 26-year-old also scored a crucial 21 runs in the WTC final and helped New Zealand get a vital lead of 32 runs in what turned out to be a low-scoring game.
“Jamieson is a fantastic bowler and a utility all-rounder in the New Zealand team. He is going to become one of the leading all-rounders in world cricket. When I had seen him last year in New Zealand, he impressed me with both bat and ball,” Sachin Tendulkar said in his YouTube video.

The legendary batter also discussed how the lanky pacer is different from the other four Kiwi pacers, stating Jamieson is predominantly a seam bowler compared to Tim Southee and Trent Boult, who are swing bowlers. Tendulkar also felt Jamieson’s seaming abilities were instrumental in picking Virat Kohli in both innings.

“He is a different bowler from Southee, Boult, Wagner and de Grandhomme. This guy likes to hit the deck hard and likes to move the ball off the seam, while the others try to swing the ball away towards the slips. There were a few variations where he angled his wrists and bowled a booming in-swinger. What I like was his consistency and he never looked out of rhythm,” Sachin Tendulkar concluded.

Apart from bagging seven wickets in the summit clash, Jamieson was also consistent with his line and lengths and didn’t give an inch for Indian batters to work on. (CricTracker)
