WEST Indies Twenty20 vice-captain Nicholas Pooran has called his teammates the “best T20 players” and is fully confident if they all execute their specific roles, the team will succeed.
The West Indies play South Africa in five T20 Internationals from today in Grenada.
“Yeah, I believe once we do our jobs right, we are going to get the rewards at the end of the day. We have the best T20 players, no doubt about it,” Pooran expressed on Thursday.

The wicketkeeper-batsman who was speaking at a virtual media briefing further stated, “Once we can play our roles the team requires of us there is no doubt that we will put up some scores. It is not guaranteed, but once we do the right things, we are giving ourselves the best chance to put some scores on the board.”
The South Africa series is the start of 15 planned T20I matches across three bilateral home tours in the build-up the October-November global event which is currently scheduled for India.
Pooran indicated it is imperative that this group bond and build momentum towards the title defence of the World T20, but to do so they must develop trust in each other.
“I just believe we are building towards the World Cup, and we have to function as a team. At the end of the day, if we can believe in each other that is very important for us. I think we have three series before the World Cup and it has been a while since we have been together for a long time.”
“It is not all about the cricket but how much we can look out for each other, how much we can be a team. You don’t win a World Cup by one or two persons performing, it is (won) by everyone playing his part and that is our key.”
West Indies languish tenth on the rankings while South Africa are at six, however, the Proteas have lost their last four series while the Caribbean side are coming off a 2-1 series success over Sri Lanka in March.
