TRINIDAD and Tobago Olympian, Aaron Prince, will be setting up a one-week camp in Guyana as part of his preparation for the Tokyo Olympic Games.
Prince is just the fourth Trinidad and Tobago boxer to qualify for the Olympics and joins Kurt Sinette, USA-born Carlos Suarez and Rio 2016 qualifier Nigel Paul.
The middleweight boxer is expected to arrive in Guyana today, along with his coach Reynold Cox, where they will engage some of Guyana’s Caribbean champions to fine-tune ahead of Japan.
“They will leave on July 1. They will be here to help prepare for the Olympics. We’re happy that they could have chosen Guyana. There are many other countries that they could have chosen. This also shows the close alliance that we have,” Steve Ninvalle, president of the Guyana Boxing Association told Chronicle Sport yesterday.
Meanwhile, Ninvalle updated that Keevin Allicock, along with his coach Sebert Blake, is set to depart Guyana next week for Russia, to attend a high-intensity training camp.
Allicock will be the first boxer, since John Douglas at the 1996 Games in Atlanta, to represent Guyana at the Olympic Games. (Rawle Toney)
